Chennai: Number of non-performing accounts under Mudra loans have been rising at a CAGR of 23 per cent since FY17, while the NPA amount has been growing at 37 per cent. At the end of FY22, the total NPA amount under Mudra loans accounted for Rs 40,456 crore, finds Niti Aayog.At the end of FY22, the number of NPA accounts under Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) stood at 66 lakh against 23 lakh in FY17, growing at a CAGR of 23 per cent. The aggregate NPA amount also grew at a CAGR of 37 per cent to Rs 40,456 crore against Rs 8,502 crore in FY17. According to Niti Aayog, the pandemic affected the repayments leading to a rising NPA per cent against the number of accounts and disbursement.Most of the NPA has been reported for the public sector banks and of the total NPA amount, they have a 79 per cent share followed by private banks with a share of 9 per cent. In terms of NPA accounts, public sector banks have a share of 45 per cent, followed by small finance banks with a share of 24 per cent. Public sector banks have the highest NPA of 22.6 per cent of their number of accounts and 16.9 per cent of their disbursement.Further, the number of NPA accounts for the Shishu category have always been more than that of the Kishore and Tarun category. Amount wise, the Kishore account holders, have been the highest contributor of NPA since FY2018. In the Shishu category loans are provided up to Rs 50,000, in Kishore it is between Rs 50,000 and Rs 5 lakh and in Tarun, the loan is between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh.In FY22, Shishu had the highest NPA accounts of 42,20,135 while Kishore accounts had a total NPA amount of Rs 22,456 crore. The share of non-performing assets in Kishore category was 6.23 per cent.Since its inception, the scheme has reached out to 34.93 crore MSE Borrower Accounts and provided credit support of Rs 18.39 lakh crore.
