Misleading Claim on Kejriwal's Speech

The Verdict Misleading In the original video, Kejriwal referred to development issues in Vishwas Nagar, represented by a BJP MLA, not the whole of Delhi. What’s the claim? Ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, a clip showing former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal discussing problems related to waste, sewage, water, and roads has gone viral online. In the 14-second video, Kejriwal says, “There is a water problem in every colony, isn’t there or not? Is there sewer issue present in all colonies or not? Are roads broken up or not? There is filth everywhere, isn’t it?” The clip was shared on X, and an archive of the post can be found here. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi official X account also shared this clip and wrote in Hindi, “Mahathug sahab himself is telling about his uselessness. Today there is water shortage in every colony of Delhi. There is sewer problem everywhere. Every road in Delhi is broken. There is garbage everywhere. When all the problems still remain the same, were they in power for 10 years just to commit scams and make up stories?” At the time of writing this check, the post had garnered 2,500 likes and 1,100 retweets. Additionally, BJP Delhi’s official Facebook account shared the same clip; an archive of that post can be found here. However, the viral video is a clipped version of Kejriwal’s speech at a public meeting in Vishwas Nagar, Delhi, ahead of the Assembly polls. The former Delhi chief minister was actually referring to the Vishwas Nagar constituency, not the whole of Delhi. What are the facts? A reverse image search on the keyframes from the viral video led us to Kejriwal’s entire speech, which was uploaded on the Aam Aadmi Party YouTube channel (archived here) on January 20, 2025. The video is titled: “Arvind Kejriwal’s public meeting in Vishwas Nagar, Delhi | Delhi Elections 2025 | AAP Delhi.” Upon watching the video, we noted that Kejriwal referred to Om Prakash Sharma, the BJP MLA from the Vishwas Nagar constituency since 2013. At the timestamp of 25:15 seconds, Kejriwal says, “Last time you people made a mistake. It happened, we got 62 out of 70 in Delhi. A mistake was made in eight seats, a mistake was made in Vishwas Nagar as well. You people made an MLA from that party [BJP] in Vishwas Nagar. Now I give it to him, he [Sharma] fought a lot with us for 10 years. But he didn’t get any work done. I am not saying anything wrong.” The viral clip starts at 25:44, when Kejriwal says, “I just came to know that there is a water problem, is there water problem in every colony or not? Is there sewer issue present in all colonies or not? Are roads broken up or not? There is filth everywhere, isn’t it?” He added that if people want only fights for the next five years, they should vote for Sharma, and if they want the work to get done, they should vote for the AAP candidate (archive here), Deepak Singla. Kejriwal’s speech in Vishwas Nagar was also shared on his official X account (archived here) on January 20, 2025. It is captioned and titled in Hindi, which translates to: “Vishwas Nagar lagged behind in development because people here elected a BJP MLA. He kept fighting with us for 10 years. This time, Vishwas Nagar will elect an AAP MLA. ” The verdict The viral video claiming to show former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accepting there are water, sewer, and road development issues in the entire Delhi has been cropped from a longer video. The original video shows Kejriwal speaking about the development issues in the Vishwas Nagar constituency.
