Adilabad: Residents of Mallapur village in Indravelli mandal, Adilabad district, allowed the integrated caste census to proceed on Sunday after an official explained the benefits of the exercise and addressed their concerns.Initially, the villagers refused to cooperate with the enumerators, demanding that their Mallapur gram panchayat be officially merged into Indravelli mandal from Sirikonda in the panchayat records.DLPO Phaninder visited Mallapur and assured the protesting villagers that their request would be addressed soon. This assurance led the villagers to permit the census survey to begin in their village.Previously, Mallapur gram panchayat was merged into Indravelli mandal from Sirikonda, but only in the revenue department records, while it remained listed under Sirikonda in the panchayat raj records. Consequently, Mallapur is still considered a gram panchayat under Sirikonda in the panchayat raj records.Since Indravelli is closer to Mallapur than Sirikonda, residents face challenges travelling to Sirikonda for official tasks. Villagers believe that merging Mallapur with Indravelli mandal would allow them to participate in local body elections for MPTC and ZPTC positions in Indravelli.
