Local Police Should Stop Vendors From Selling Chinese Manja: Asaduddin Owaisi

Hyderabad: Hyderabad MP and AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi has called for intervention by local police to check and stop vendors from selling the hazardous chinese manja.Reacting to a post of Hyderabad City Police, Owaisi wrote, “This is not enough the local PS should go and check and stop vendors who sell this Chinese Manja as many people have lost their lives in the past year.”As the Sankranti season approaches, the Hyderabad City Police has issued a warning against the sale and use of Chinese manja.In a post on X, the Hyderabad City Police said that the sale and use of Chinese manja are illegal and punishable by law. The penalties for violating this law include imprisonment for up to five years and a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh.Despite the ban, a number of shops have been selling Chinese manja products to customers to fly kites during the festive season. Chinese manja is a synthetic nylon string coated with abrasive materials like powdered glass or metal and it poses risks to public safety, wildlife, and the environment.Hyderabad cops have been conducting raids on shops at different limits in the City and have registered cases against such managements. Recently, they seized 987 manja bobbins from the shops and also arrested 22 persons during special drives.Mangalhat Police Launch Special DriveMangalhat police have been conducting a special drive against the sale of the banned Chinese manja since November 10. They registered 18 cases against 22 sellers and seized 1094 bobbins from their possession.
