ANANTAPUR: A team of the forest department on Friday succeeded in trapping the leopard, which had created a widespread scare in Sirivella mandal of Nandyal district after attacking and killing former vice sarpanch of Pacharla Sheik Meharunbi on the outskirts of her village. People of villages in the Pacharla region had been living in terror, particularly after the leopard carried away the head of the former vice sarpanch when locals tried to rescue Meharunbi. Forest department went into mission mode for catching the leopard, as it had turned into a man eater. Teams of foresters set up cages in different locations of Pacharla area after identifying the moments of the leopard. Finally, the leopard entered a cage near the toll gate at Pacharla. The forest department did not leave the leopard back into the deep forest, as it had taken to attacking humans and had become a man-eater. The department put the cage with the leopard in a vehicle and transported it to the Tirupati zoo. Incidentally, the forest department had put another leopard that attacked and killed a boy at Alipiri a few months ago in the Tirupati zoo.
