KOPPAL: Leader of the Opposition in Karnataka Assembly R Ashoka visited the family of deceased PSI Parashuram in Somanala village of Koppal district on Sunday. Speaking to the parents and siblings of Parashuram, Ashoka expressed deep concern over the alleged corruption by the Congress government. Ashoka assured that the BJP will intensify its protest against this injustice and incorporate it into its ongoing padayatra. The family and friends of Parashuram informed Ashoka that the officer had been suffering from severe depression after being transferred within seven months of his posting. They alleged that a local MLA and his son had demanded Rs 30 lakh to cancel the transfer. “He was deeply troubled and had mentioned the demand for money. We were helpless, as our income barely reached Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 a month. We even suggested that he return to the village for a few days,” a friend of Parashuram shared with Ashoka. A memorandum detailing these concerns was also handed over to Ashoka. Addressing the media after meeting with Parashuram’s family and friends, Ashoka criticized the authorities for their inaction. “Despite Parashuram’s wife being nine months pregnant, the police delayed registering an FIR for about 12 hours. It is really sad to see the government’s treatment of a woman from a Dalit family,” he said. He also questioned the moral compass of officials who remain silent in the face of such blatant injustice. Ashoka also alleged that a local legislator, Channareddy Patil, had made derogatory remarks suggesting that Dalits should not reside in the area. “We are all governed by the Constitution provided to us by Dr Ambedkar. Such caste-based discrimination is intolerable and a direct insult to the values enshrined in it,” Ashoka stated. Ashoka further accused the current government of being steeped in corruption, claiming that bribes have become a prerequisite for postings in various departments. “When we were in power, the Congress made allegations against us and gave an advertisement in the media alleging ‘rate cards,’ for posting. What do they have to say now?” he questioned. Ashoka assured to raise this issue with the Home Minister and promised to stand with Parashuram’s family in their fight for justice. When asked about the demand for a CBI inquiry, Ashoka affirmed his support for the family members’ request. The death of Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Parashuram has sparked serious allegations against Yadgir MLA Channareddy Tunnur and his son, Pampanagouda Sunny Gouda. Following his recent transfer from Yadgir Town Police Station, Parashuram died under suspicious circumstances on August 2, leading to widespread controversy and public outrage. In response to these developments, Parashuram’s wife has filed a complaint, prompting the registration of a case at Yadgir Town Police Station. The case includes charges under IPC sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 352 (assault or use of criminal force), along with provisions under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, specifically targeting the MLA and his son.
