Hyderabad: Thursday seemed like a peep into the past wherein RTC crossroads would be full of filmgoers trying to grab tickets especially on the first day of a movie’s release to watch their chosen film at Sudarshan 35, Devi 70, Sandhya 70 and 35 mm. This influx of audience was ironically for ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, which was screened in all four theatres. The overwhelming turnout, which must have gladdened the distributors and theatre owners, has proved once again that it is the star cast and content that brings audiences to theatres. On Thursday after a 4 am special screenings, the rush for the regular screenings of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ and the houseful shows cleared all doubts, notwithstanding the T20 World Cup set for a grand finale. It was field day for black marketers who made good money by selling tickets for around `3000 each.Balgovind Raj Tadla, owner of Devi 70 mm and Sudershan 35 mm theatres, said “Cinema audiences had resurfaced. They were only waiting for good content. This is the biggest movie after the Covid lock down. We installed an advanced projector at Devi 70 mm as it gives the best of the 3D effects.”A little away, Vanka Laxmiah Sridhar, owner of VLS Sridevi in Chilkalguda, said, “this movie can resurrect single theatres. Kalki is a morale-booster for moviemakers.” ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ , starring Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Hassan, Deepika Padukone, among others, is an eagerly awaited sci-fi epic. One of the attractions of the movie is the specially designed car that is used by the hero, which was kept for exhibition at Prasad IMax.
