Hyderabad: Tourism minister Jupally Krishna Rao inaugurated a key workshop for tourism stakeholders at the National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM) on Wednesday. The event was held as part of the European Union-supported SIPAS (Skill Integration for Post-Pandemic Revival of the Hospitality and Tourism Sector) project. He also launched the official website for the SIPAS project.Speaking at the event, Krishna Rao pointed to the growth of the hospitality and tourism sectors in line with global development and said: There are many job opportunities for young people in this growing sector.”The minister lauded National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management director Zendage Hanumant Kondiba for taking the lead in implementing the European collaboration and bringing global exposure to the institute.The event saw participation from international academic partners, including Prof. Agita from Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (Latvia), Prof. Duarte Jara Brasil from Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal (Portugal), Prof. Sampada Kumar Swain from Pondicherry University, and Dr G. Mahender, head of department at the Central University of Karnataka.The event was attended by Telangana Tourism Development Corporation chairman Prakash Reddy, Telangana State Council of Higher Education chairman Prof. Balakrishna Reddy, and several representatives from the SIPAS consortium across Indian states.Registrations Open for 14th NMDC MarathonHyderabad: Registrations have opened for the 14th edition of the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon, to be held on August 24. The early bird offer will be available until April 30, and registrations will close by May 31 or earlier if the slots get filled.Organised by the Hyderabad Runners Society, this event is one of India’s biggest city marathons and attracts runners from all over India and beyond.This year’s events will begin with a two-day sport expo on August 22 and 23. The 5K run will take place on August 23, followed by the 10K, Half-Marathon and Full Marathon on August 24. Hyderabad Runners said they are committed to promoting fitness and community bonding through this event.They have also applied for the prestigious World Athletics Label and have received support from Indian Athletics while they await final approval.The organisers expressed gratitude to the state government, police and civic bodies for support. Their involvement is crucial in ensuring the smooth and safe conduct of the marathon, Hyderabad Runners said.Rajesh Vetcha, race director of the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2025, encouraged everyone to join the event and help make it a grand success. He said the marathon is more than just a run, it is a movement that brings people together to celebrate Hyderabad’s vibrant spirit.Resolve LRS Issues: MA&UDHyderabad: MA&UD principal secretary M. Dana Kishore, has directed district collectors and municipal commissioners to complete the process of resolving layout regularisation scheme (LRS) applications by the month-end. He pointed out that some districts had issued fewer proceedings and asked them to improve their progress. He also and discussed the strategies followed in districts where the performance was better.During a video conference, Dana Kishore, along with DTCP Devender Reddy, reviewed the status of the LRS process. The meeting was attended by district collectors, additional collectors of local bodies, municipal commissioners and town planning officials.Kishore stressed that proceedings should be issued quickly to all applicants who have paid the LRS fee. He noted that verification of layouts was moving slowly as compared to open plots and asked officials to focus more on layout verification and bulk applications.To create more awareness about the benefits of LRS, he advised collectors to run publicity campaigns using print, electronic and social media, as well as flex banners. He also instructed officials to contact applicants who haven’t paid the fee yet and remind them to complete the payment by April 30, 2025.Dirty Water Supply Halted In PutlibowliHyderabad: he Water Board said it had stopped the supply of contaminated water in Putlibowli, under its Red Hills division after residents lodged complaints about dirty water coming through their taps. Officials found a leak in the main water pipeline and said they had fixed it over three days.The water contamination was caused by damage to a 350-mm pipeline near a drain at the Putlibowli crossroad. Because of the damage, dirty water from the drain was mixing with the drinking water supply. Officials deployed a pollution identification machine and a camera to detect the damaged part inside the pipeline. On spotting the damaged part, officials repaired it and restored water supply was restored to the area.Anurag Jayanti Stresses Strict Adherence to Rules for Smooth MLC ElectionsHyderabad: Returning officer Anurag Jayanti on Thursday asked polling and counting staff to carry out their duties carefully and follow election rules strictly to ensure smooth and fair polling for the April 23 MLC elections to the Hyderabad local areas constituencies. He was speaking at the second round of training.Presiding officers, assistant presiding officers, micro observers and OPOs attended the meeting. In the afternoon, the first round of training was conducted for counting supervisors, assistants and micro observers.Anurag Jayanti directed everyone to be thorough with the rules and procedures. He said polling and counting processes may seem simple but should be handled with care. He explained the step-by-step process to be followed from the start of polling and asked staff to be especially careful about tasks like handling ballot papers, sealing ballot boxes and filling out forms correctly.He said that the vote counting process must be fully transparent and error-free. All staff should understand their roles and responsibilities clearly and work as a team.During the training, polling officials were guided on setting up polling stations, checking ballot paper serial numbers, sealing ballot boxes and understanding various forms and duties. Counting staff were trained on how to follow rules during vote counting.
