Hyderabad: The National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) has launched the second edition of the Javed Abidi Fellowship on Disability 2.0, an initiative aimed at empowering young leaders with disabilities. The fellowship seeks to ensure that young people with disabilities get a platform to take leadership roles in areas such as policy advocacy, research, and community mobilisation. Around 25-30 fellows will be selected from across India. The fellowship will last for 15 months and provide a monthly stipend of up to Rs 25,000. Registration is open, with applications closing on February 14. The fellowship, launched in 2021, “is more than a programme,– it is a movement,” said Arman Ali, executive director of NCPEDP. The initiative honours the legacy of Javed Abidi, a renowned disability rights activist and former director of NCPEDP.The fellowship will focus on youth with disabilities aged 18-28 and equip them with the skills to bridge gaps in accessibility and create lasting change in their communities. Fellows will receive personalised mentorship from experts in the field and be provided with practical opportunities to engage in advocacy and impact-driven projects. The programme covers crucial focus areas, including accessibility, education, health, gender, and livelihood.
