HYDERABAD: Irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday greeted people on the occasion of Sankranti festival and expressed hope that prosperity and abundance will shine upon Telangana this year.In a statement, he called on people to celebrate the festival harmoniously, transcending caste and religious differences.The minister praised the state’s unparalleled agricultural success, citing a record-breaking yield of 153 lakh tonnes of paddy last year.“This achievement is a reflection of the government’s consistent support for farmers and agriculture. This is truly the year of the farmer,” Reddy said, emphasising that Telangana has emerged as a model for farmers’ welfare.Despite the neglect of several projects by the previous government, the Congress administration has prepared a comprehensive plan to complete several projects and bring prosperity to Telangana, he said.On the education front, Reddy highlighted the government’s initiatives to establish integrated residential schools of international standards, with an estimated budget of Rs 5,000 crore. He also drew attention to welfare measures implemented for students, including introduction of a common diet system in government hostels. Students will now be served fine-quality rice in government hostels, ensuring nutritious meals.Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the new white ration cards were being issued to all eligible poor families across Telangana. He also announced that fine rice will soon be distributed to all white ration cardholders.
