Hyderabad: Dealing with international fraudsters, who keep updating their modus operandi, has become a challenge for cyber crime agencies in the city.Cyber agencies across the country have found that crores of rupees are shipped out of the country through Hawala network in the form of crypto currencies.The cyber unit has issued warnings to the public not to receive calls from unidentified numbers. A recent circular was issued to all states to remain vigilant and educate people and telecom companies on cyber crimes, a senior cybercrime officer said.According to the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center, 11,383 cybercrimes were reported in metro cities of the country, including online trading frauds over the last nine months of 2024.Till January 2025, there were 33,19,882 cases reported from metro cities including 1,00,360 complaints of digital arrest, reliable sources disclosed.According to the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System, a total of 12 lakh cases were reported last year of which 45 per cent were reported from Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos. In 2021, 30 lakh cyber crimes were reported.While inter-state fraudsters can be tracked easily, it’s difficult to handle fraudsters operating from other countries. It depends on the amounts involved and the extradition rules, a cyber cop said.Citizens should stay alert and not fall prey to these fraudsters who keep updating their modus operandi to confuse their victims, he said.Infographics-TelanganaIn 2024, Telangana saw a 43.33% rise in cyber crimes compared to 2023.The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) reported 25,184 cyber cases in 2024.In 2024, Telangana reported 1.14 lakh cyber crimecomplaints, a 24.5 per cent increase from 2023.In 2024, Telangana reported losses of Rs 1,867 crore which was more than double the losses in 2023.
