Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday stressed on India’s accelerated growth towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy as he addressed the ‘Utkarsh Odisha-Make in Odisha Conclave 2025’ in Odisha capital Bhubaneswar., He reiterated that the country is rapidly heading toward its ambitious target of a five-trillion-dollar economy, emphasising that the nation’s economic future lies in the value-added manufacturing sector and innovative service industries. Highlighting India’s transformation, Modi said, “The milestone of a five trillion-dollar economy is not far away. India has started emerging stronger in manufacturing. Our economy now has two major pillars – a thriving service sector and quality products.” He stressed the need for shifting from the export of raw materials to the addition of value within the country, citing Odisha as a prime example for this vision. The Prime Minister also criticised the outdated practice of extracting raw minerals and seafood from India, only to have processed products imported back. Modi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that industries related to local resources, particularly minerals and seafood, are set up within Odisha. This, he noted, aligns with the government’s larger vision to stimulate the local economy and create jobs. Modi’s address also touched on India’s growing focus on green energy and sustainability. He discussed how the world is increasingly leaning toward green solutions and a sustainable lifestyle. “India is focusing heavily on green energy, such as solar, wind, and green hydrogen, to ensure energy security,” he said. “There is immense potential for these energy solutions in Odisha, and the state is making significant strides with policies supporting renewable energy industries.” The Prime Minister lauded Odisha’s proactive steps in expanding its infrastructure, especially in sectors such as petrochemicals and renewable energy. He mentioned the state’s efforts to build industrial parks and investment regions in Paradip and Gopalpur, as well as the expansion of ports and road networks to lower logistics costs. These measures, he said, would elevate Odisha into a key player in the country’s blue economy. Turning to infrastructure development, Modi emphasised India’s push for multi-modal connectivity, which he described as vital for a thriving economy. With new dedicated freight corridors and improved access to ports, India is positioning itself as a major hub for investment, and Odisha is poised to play a significant role in this transformation. Modi urged industry leaders to support the growth of MSMEs and startups, stressing the importance of research, innovation, and skill development for the future of India’s industries. He also encouraged Odisha to leverage its tourism potential, particularly in eco-tourism, adventure tourism, and the growing “concert economy,” which he sees as an emerging avenue for job creation and tourism growth.
