HYDRAA stops debris dumping, seizes trucks

Hyderabad: HYDRAA, in two separate incidents, caught trucks dumping construction debris and silt into Bandlaguda’s Umda Cheruvu and Pet Basheerabad’s Devulapalli lake. They handed over the drivers to the police and booked cases against them.The Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams, under HYDRAA, conducted late-night inspections and caught four tipper trucks illegally dumping soil into Umda Cheruvu on Monday midnight.A JCB was also found at the location, levelling the dumped soil in the lake. Officials took the trucks and the JCB, and handed them over to Bandlaguda police. Cases were registered against them.In a similar incident, DRF teams caught a tipper truck dumping debris at Devulapalli lake, also known as Samar Kunta, in Pet Basheerabad. The vehicle was seized, and the driver was handed over to Pet Basheerabad police after registering a complaint.A HYDRAA official, speaking to Deccan Chronicle, said they have increased surveillance at lakes to prevent illegal dumping. “There will be strict action against people who are violating laws. We are constantly conducting surveillance at lakes, government lands and public property to make sure they aren’t encroached. We request the public to report such activities to us, and we will take immediate action”, the official said.
