Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday unveiled ambitious plans for the expansion of Hyderabad’s infrastructure, aiming to establish two circles of roads and two circles of railways by expanding Hyderabad Metro Rail, constructing Regional Ring Road, Regional Ring Rail and linking all these rings with radial roads. The development is part of a wider initiative to enhance the city’s urban mobility and ensure it remains competitive and sustainable in the long run. Speaking to a global audience at the roundtable conference on Urban Mobility in Davos on Wednesday, Revanth Reddy stressed the crucial role of mobility in a city’s growth. “Only the dead can’t move. Mobility is life,” he said, explaining that the future success of cities will be determined by the efficiency of their transportation systems. “Cities where the cost and time to move people and goods are low will win in the long term,” he explained. With Hyderabad’s population rapidly growing to over 1.2 crore, Revanth Reddy described his vision for the city’s future mobility. “Urban mobility is not just about connecting people within my city, but also connecting it to towns and villages across the state,” he remarked. The Chief Minister outlined plans for a massive expansion of the Hyderabad Metro, with new lines pushing the network to over 100 kilometres, more than doubling its existing capacity. In addition to this, a 360-km Regional Ring Road (RRR) is under construction, designed to link major towns and villages surrounding the city. Further enhancing connectivity, a Regional Ring Railway (RRR) will be built along the new ring road, giving the city two concentric circles of roads and two circles of railways. Radial roads will also be constructed to connect these major transportation routes. The ambitious infrastructure projects aim to streamline mobility and create a more integrated and efficient transportation network across the state. Revanth Reddy also mentioned the creation of a major dry port, designed to become a key hub for supply chains and warehousing. This facility will be linked to the closest seaport, Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh, via dedicated highways and railway lines.”We are replacing nearly 3,000 public buses running on petrol and diesel with electric buses,” he shared, adding that Telangana has eliminated road tax and registration charges on electric vehicles, contributing to the state’s position as a leader in EV sales growth in India. In further steps toward sustainability, Revanth Reddy announced plans for the construction of a new net-zero city, which will feature some of the world’s best mobility options.Reiterating his commitment to low-cost, high-speed, and environmentally friendly mobility, the Chief Minister invited global investors and experts to partner with his government in creating a state-of-the-art transportation network. “We want our people to move fast, move at low cost, and we will build the infrastructure to support this,” he said. “Help me make Hyderabad the fastest and greenest city in the world,” the Chief Minister appealed.
