Hyderabad police bust Rs.2.95 crore trading fraud, 2 held

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad cyber crime police on Friday arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in Rs.2.95 crore trading fraud scam. The arrested persons – Sameer Hundekar and Deepak Sampath, both residents of Bengaluru – conspired to defraud victims by luring them with promises of huge profits from investments in fake stocks. On August 27, 2024, the cyber crime police received a complaint from a victim residing in Hyderabad. The victim reported being added to a WhatsApp group named “Marval Capita”, which claimed to offer stock market trading tips and was advertised on YouTube. The group showcased fake profits from stock investments to lure victims. The victim invested a total amount of Rs.2.95 crore in these fake stocks, which was then siphoned off into multiple bank accounts controlled by the fraudsters, said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Cyber Crime, Dara Kavitha at a press conference here. Following the complaint, the cyber crime police registered a case and took up investigation. Kavitha said that Sameer Hundekar and Deepak Sampath collaborated with the primary fraudster Ritesh Soni, who is accused one (A1) and based in Dubai. The duo opened multiple mule bank accounts and provided banking credentials, including cheque books, to Soni for the withdrawal of fraudulent amounts. The fraudsters also incorporated shell companies, with mule account holders falsely listed as proprietors. The accused received a five per cent commission for each fraudulent transaction processed through these accounts. The police seized a laptop, seven mobile phones, 21 debit and credit cards, 18 cheque books, four shell company stamps, three QR code scanners and 15 SIM cards from the possession of the arrested persons. In an advisory, the police cautioned the people not to believe unknown persons, who introduce themselves over social media platforms like Telegram, Whatsapp, Instagram and Facebook offering them to invest in stock market for getting high returns and task oriented investment offers and not to invest in un authorized websites which offers high returns on small investments.
