The Weeknd (b. Abel Tesfaye) has had a few high-profile romances since his breakthrough in the 2010s.
His relationship and breakup with Selena Gomez inspired his EP, My Dear Melancholy.
As of 2023, The Weeknd has been involved with DJ/influencer Simia Khadra.
With music woven with sex, heartbreak, longing, and lust, The Weeknd has crafted a persona around him that is mysterious and alluring – one that has earned him fans and followers across the world. However, the one born Abel Tesfaye has allowed a handful of high-profile women to see the man behind the mask. Many know of his on-again/off-again romance with Bella Hadid and his short-but-intense love affair with Selena Gomez (that resulted in an EP that preceded his After Hours era.)
However, since 2022, The Weeknd has been romantically involved with Simi Khadra. The couple were first linked in 2022, and in April 2023, the two were spotted in a rare public outing. Abel, 33, and Simi, 30, attended a party at the Roger Room club with friends, confirming that their romance was still going strong. As The Idol star continues his love with the influencer/DJ/entrepreneur, get to know all about the high-profile women The Weeknd has dated.

Simi Khadra
(MEGA)
Simi Khadra first connected with The Weeknd in 2022. The two linked up at his birthday party, and onlookers said they were “making out like there was no tomorrow.” Simi is best known as part of a DJ duo with her twin sister, Haze Khadra, and both the Khadra twins run in the same social circles as Bella Hadid.
Four months after that first burst of PDA, Simi and Abel appeared in public together on a dinner date in Beverly Hills. They held hands while out and about, showing that their love had blossomed from that dance floor makeout sesh. In April 2023, the couple were seen together again, attending a party together in Los Angeles.
Bella Hadid

In December of the same year, the supermodel went on to have a starring role in The Weeknd’s music video for his track “In The Night” off of his album Beauty Behind The Madness. While the duo kept the details of their relationship fairly private, they were often spotted out and about together and in 2016 made their red carpet appearance at the 2016 Grammy Awards. By November of that year, however, the pair went their separate ways due to conflicting schedules and rigorous work commitments.
This was the start of their on-again/off-again romance that would continue until their final (for now?) breakup in 2019. The two remained friends after the initial breakup and made an incredibly awkward situation — The Weeknd performing as she walked down the runway in lingerie at the 2018 Victoria’s Secret fashion show — not a big deal. After The Weeknd and Selena Gomez split in late 2017, The Weeknd was spotted leaving her apartment in New York City.

The Weeknd and Bella rekindled their relationship in May 2018, only to call it quits again in August 2019. By October, reports claimed the two had returned to being “just friends,” and that’s how they’ve been since.
Fans also believed that the remnants of their relationship were strewn throughout his 2020 album After Hours. In “Escape From L.A.,” The Weeknd sings, “She got Chrome Hearts hanging from her neck.” Chrome Hearts is the name of the streetwear brand Bella has done multiple collaborations with. Coincidence?

Selena Gomez
The Weeknd and Selena Gomez pack on the PDA at the 2017 Met Gala [Shutterstock].Not long after his breakup with Bella, The Weeknd went on to date Selena in January 2017. The duo made a few public appearances together, most notably at the 2017 Met Gala where they packed on the PDA in their glamorous outfits. Their summer of love gave way to the couple moving in together in New York City by September of that year. But it was a relatively short-lived arrangement, and the two went their separate ways by October, several months after Selena had her kidney transplant.
In 2018, The Weeknd released My Dear Melancholy, an EP that many fans have speculated is the reaction to his split from Selena. “The reason why it was so short is like, I think I just had nothing else to say on this,” he explained in a 2020 profile with Esquire. “Whatever. It was just, like, this cathartic piece of art. And yeah, it was short, because that’s all I had to say on the situation.” The work did make him feel better. “That would have sucked if it didn’t,” he added.
One of the most buzzworthy songs off the project was “Call Out My Name,” which saw The Weeknd sing, “I helped you out of a broken place” and “Guess I was just another pit stop ’til you made up your mind,” seemingly alluding to Selena’s own on-again/off-again relationship with Justin Bieber. The Weeknd even sang about how he “almost cut a piece of myself for your life,” hinting that he may have been a potential kidney donor for Selena.
Though their relationship did not last long, fans have reason to believe that Selena inspired the song “Save Your Tears” off of The Weeknd’s album After Hours. The opening lyric to The Weeknd’s track goes, “I saw you dancing in a crowded room,” which could point to one of Selena’s songs on her recent album, Rare, titled “Crowded Room.” The song also includes lyrics like, “Take me back ’cause I want to stay,” and “You could’ve asked me why I broke your heart / You could’ve told me that you fell apart.”
Selena may have returned the favor with her song, “Souvenir,” a bonus song on the deluxe edition of Rare. ” “You’re giving me chills at a hundred degrees /it’s better than pills how you put me to sleep / Calling your name, the only language I can speak / taking my breath, a souvenir that you can keep.”
