Vijayawada: Former minister Kottu Satyanarayana has criticized BJP state president Daggubati Purandeswari for her remarks during the Hindu Shankharavam meeting near Vijayawada.Speaking at the YSRC office here on Tuesday, he accused Purandeswari of making politically motivated allegations to benefit her brother-in-law and Telugu Desam supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu. “It is unfortunate that Purandeswari used a platform meant to uphold Hindu Dharma for baseless political accusations. Her primary agenda is to safeguard Naidu’s interests, not Hindu values,” Satyanarayana said. He highlighted former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government’s significant contributions to Hindu Dharma, including temple restoration, increasing priests’ salaries, abolition of retirement rules for priests and resolution of long-pending temple land disputes. “Unlike Chandrababu’s tenure, which saw temple demolitions and idol desecration, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s administration has prioritised temple development with Rs 600 crore in investments and the protection of temple lands,” he added. Satyanarayana accused Purandeswari of ignoring the TD government’s failures, like demolition of over 40 temples during Krishna Pushkaralau and mishandling the Rajahmundry Pushkaralu, which led to 29 deaths. “She remained silent then but now makes baseless allegations for political gain,” Satyanarayana remarked. He further noted that the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy government freed temples earning below Rs 5 lakh from government control, built 3,000 new temples using Srivani Trust funds, and initiated major projects in Kanakadurga and Srisailam temples. “Purandeswari’s remarks are a diversionary tactic by the BJP-TD coalition. The YSRC government’s revolutionary measures to protect Hindu traditions and temple lands speak louder than her politically charged words,” he said.
