Haryana CM Khattar, ministers resign ahead of cabinet reshuffle

A meeting held between JJP chief Chautala and BJP president JP Nadda had remained inconclusive as Dushyant wanted two seats – Hisar and Bhiwani–Mahendragarh – in the parliamentary polls. The BJP did not accept his demand and decided to field its candidates on all 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana. Dushyant had won from Hisar Lok Sabha seat in 2014.The JJP however made it clear that they would contest on two seats in Lok Sabha or else they would go all alone. Interestingly just two days ago, saffron party’s Hisar MP Brijendra Singh resigned from the party as he anticipated that his seat may go to JJP.This sudden development is a major setback to Haryana Deputy Chief Minister and JJP leader Dushyant Chautala as JJP is a breakaway faction of the Indian National Lok Dal, which was formed in 2019, right ahead of assembly election. Thus his (Dushyant) five MLAs skipped a meeting he had called in Delhi and are likely to join the saffron party. These five JJP MLAs who are likely to switch over to alliance partner BJP are Jogi Ram Sihag, Ram Kumar Gautam, Ishwar Singh, Ramniwas and Devinder Babli and all these lawmakers are likely to form a breakaway group and join the BJP.All cabinet ministers reached the Haryana Raj Bhawan submitted their resignations. The BJP has deployed Union Minister Arjun Munda and BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh and they have reach Chandigarh and are having talks with the party leaders.Sources in the saffron party said that they are in favour of going solo in the upcoming Lok Sabha and assembly elections. As of now their iss no immediate threat to the Haryana Government as it sailed through the no-confidence motion during the last assembly session. As per rules a six-month gap for the next no-confidence motion to be brought in.An independent legislator Dharampal Gonder said the independent MLAs were supporting the BJP-led government. As some time back Khattar held a meeting with Independent MLAs to figure out how they were leaning. In the 90-member Haryana Vidhan Sabha, the BJP has 41 MLAs of its own while the JJP had 10, Congress 30 legislators and seven independents besides an MLA each of the INLD and Haryana Lokhit Party. It is not the first time that the BJP-JJP coalition came under a strain as earlier JJP was worried over the fallout of farmer protests on its Jat vote bank. In last few days key officials posted in departments headed by Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala were transfered which was also seen as a move to cut him off.(With PTI inputs)
