Gram Sabhas to Identify Beneficiaries for Welfare Schemes in Telangana

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and other ministers urged all eligible individuals to apply for ration cards and Indiramma houses, even as the gram sabhas to identify beneficiaries for the welfare programmes to be launched on January 26 began on Tuesday.Bhatti participated in the online meeting with the collectors from the Secretariat on Tuesday along with ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Uttam Kumar Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, Tummala Nageswara Rao, Jupally Krishna Rao, D. Anasuya Seethakka and Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari. The government is organising gram sabhas till 24 to identify beneficiaries for Rythu Bharosa, Indiramma Atmeeya Bharosa, ration cards and Indiramma houses. These schemes are projected to cost the exchequer Rs 40,000 crore. They noted that since ration cards and Indiramma houses are being distributed after a decade, the response is expected to be substantial. They also clarified that the issuance of these benefits would be a continuous process. However, with the applicants outnumbering the number of beneficiaries the gram sabhas witnessed arguments between the applicants and the officials over the criteria of selection.Officials tried to convince the applicants that benefits like housing and ration cards would continue to be issued to those who did not find their names on the list. Those without land expressed resentment after their names were not found in the Indiramma Aatmeeya Bharosa list.Such instances were reported from Hazipur, Durki and Ankol villages in Nasrullabadh in Nizamabad district. Farmers were found insisting on the continuation of Rythu Bharosa to cultivated land that was left fallow in Narsapur of Kammarpally mandal. BJP MLA Paidi Rakesh Reddy was asked about his failure to provide houses as promised by him earlier. In Duddellapalli of Saidapur mandal of Karimnagar district, people questioned why their names were missing from the Indiramma Aatmeeya Bharosa list.Concerns also arose over the cap of Rs 5 lakh grant for landowners constructing houses as part of the 3,500 houses per Assembly constituency in the first phase. Many expressed doubts about their chances of receiving these benefits.
