Budget 2025: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the government will launch on six-year programme for ‘Atamnirbharta’ in pulses with a special focus on tur, urad, and masoor. Central agencies such as NAFED and NCCF will be prepared to procure these pulses from farmers who register with the agencies and enter into agreements. This initiative will run over the next four years, ensuring support and guaranteed procurement for farmers.
She said that the government is implementing a national mission for edible oil seed, she shared, emphasizing that Indian farmers have the “capability to grow enough for our needs and more.”
The Finance Minister highlighted a comprehensive program for vegetables and fruits, acknowledging the growing awareness among the population about their nutritional needs. This shift reflects a healthier society, with rising income levels leading to an increase in the consumption of vegetables, fruits, and other nutritious foods. The government aims to support this trend with targeted initiatives to further promote the availability and accessibility of these essential food items, ensuring that the benefits of improved nutrition reach a wider segment of the population.
PM Dhan Dhyan Krishi Yojana
The Finance Minister further announced that the PM Dhan Dhyan Krishi Yojana, covering 100 districts with low yields, modern crop intensity and below-average credit parameters. She said that the PM Dhan Dhyan Krishi Yojan will benefit 1.7 crore farmers.
“Prime Minister Dhanya Dhan Krishi Yojana – developing agri districts programme. Motivated by the success of the aspirational district’s programme, our government will undertake Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana in partnership with states. This programme is likely to help 1.7 crore farmers,” she said.
Govt raises Kisan Credit Card limit
Sitharaman announced an increase in the interest subvention scheme for the Kisan Credit Card (KCC), raising the limit from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
Presenting the eighth consecutive Budget today, Sitharaman said, “Kisan Credit Card facilitates short-term loans for 7.7 crore farmers, fishermen and dairy farmers. The loan limit under modified interest subvention scheme will be enhanced from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh for loans taken through the KCC. For self-reliance in urea production, our govt had reopened three dormant urea plans in the eastern region to further augment urea supply – a plant with an annual capacity of 12.7 lakh metro tonnes will be set up at Namrup in Assam.”
