Hyderabad: GHMC on Tuesday inaugurated beautification works in Narayanguda at a combined cost of Rs 87 lakh. The works included a water fountain under the Narayanguda Flyover (Rs 40 lakh), rope lighting also on the flyover (Rs 10 lakh) and decorative lighting near YMCA (Rs 37 lakh).On the day, joint secretary of the Union ministry of urban and housing affairs Roopa Mishra visited Hyderabad to review progress of projects under the Swachh Bharat Mission.The visit began with a virtual meeting with Smart City commissioners from Karimnagar and Warangal.Mishra wented the Loo Cafe near KBR Park. She appreciated GHMC’s effort in providing clean and free public toilets to the citizens. She also visited the integrated municipal solid waste plant at Jawaharnagar.Officials shared the challenges GHMC and Ramky Enviro engineers faced in managing the facility and how these were addressed.Director of Ramky Group explained how the plant follows a circular economy model by using power from the waste to energy plant for streetlights, recycling plastics into bin bags and using compost in parks and offices.Mishra suggested improving waste segregation and strengthening GHMC’s control over primary waste collection.Mishra also visited the 84th All India Industrial Exhibition (Numaish) in Nampally where she interacted with beneficiaries of the Mission For Elimination Of Poverty In Municipal Areas, who started businesses using government support.Mishra praised them for their dedication to keeping the event clean and their role in the Swachh Bharat Mission’s success.
