The Saksham Anganwadi and POSHAN 2.0 (Umbrella ICDS – Anganwadi Services, Poshan Abhiyan, Scheme for Adolescent Girls) saw the highest allocation of funds at Rs 21,200 crore, followed by the Mission Shakti (Mission for Protection and Empowerment for Women) which has been given Rs 3145.97 crore. The Mission VATSALYA (Child Protection Services and Child Welfare Services) was allocated Rs 1,472 crore.Emphasising the government’s focus on women’s empowerment, the finance minister started by stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi “firmly believes, we need to focus on four major castes. They are, ‘Garib’ (Poor), ‘Mahilayen’ (Women), ‘Yuva’ (Youth), and ‘Annadata’(Farmer).“Their needs, their aspirations, and their welfare are our highest priority. The country progresses when they progress”. She added that all four require and receive government support in their quest to better their lives and their empowerment and well-being will drive the country forward,” she said.
