Four Burmese Girls Among 18 Arrested in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Personnel from the Telangana special cell and law and order police raided a house in Ganganagar, Malakpet and arrested four Burmese girls, who had illegally migrated into the country, and 16 human traffickers and flesh trade brokers. Special cell officials reported the issue to counter intelligence and special branch officials, who are coordinating with other state intelligence wings, to track those who had helped the illegal entry from Myanmar and Bangladesh, reliable police sources disclosed. The four girls and the agents are reportedly being questioned by city task force and intelligence officials. A senior police officer said that the central agencies are also cross checking the previous background of the migrants with other state intelligence. Police strongly suspect that the international human trafficking mafia is involved in smuggling girls from neighbouring countries into India and pushing them into prostitution in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai and Jaipur, among other cities. The local agents, who have been arrested, revealed that they had a strong network with human traffickers abroad, reliable police sources said. The trafficking agents managed to procure forged Aadhaar cards on false names so that the victims’ identity (most of the women come in burqa) could be concealed while crossing the borders, police sources disclosed. A senior police officer said that they enter Manipur through the forest belt with assistance from those familiar with the topography. This is a ploy also used by Rohingyas to cross the border from Myanmar via Bangladesh after obtaining fake Aadhaar cards in Kolkata. They generally bear Hyderabad or West Bengal addresses. The men who come from Myanmar and Bangladesh, and are fluent in Urdu and Bengali, work as taxi drivers, indulge in flesh trade and facilitate delivery of girls in posh localities through social media, reliable sources said. Stating that 18 persons have been detained, a SB officer said that as it was a sensitive issue, intelligence agencies cannot disclose details of the cases that are in the investigation stage.
