Mangaluru: Raichur district experienced a sharp rise in temperatures over the last 24 hours, with five places recording more than 39 degrees and two crossing the 40-degree mark. Gurgunta Hobli recorded the highest temperature in the state at 40.4 degrees, according to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC). Gurgunta Hobli recorded the highest temperature in the state at 40.4 degrees, followed by Huda Hobli at 40 degrees. Salagundi registered 39.7 degrees, Kallur 39.5 degrees, and Gorebal 39.1 degrees. (Gurgunta Hobli is in Lingsugur Taluk, Kallur in Sirivara Taluk, and Huda, Gorebal, and Salagundi in Sindhanur Taluk.) Meanwhile, Nipani Hobli in Belagavi recorded 39.6 degrees. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), maximum temperatures were 1.6 degrees to 3 degrees above normal in a few places over Coastal Karnataka, while they remained near normal (-1.5 degrees to 1.5 degrees) in the rest of the state. Hot and humid conditions are likely to persist in Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts for the next three days.
