Families of 26/11 victims demand Rana’s hanging

Mumbai: The family members of victims of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks have demanded death penalty for Tahawwur Rana, one of the major accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana in the case.Eknath Omble, brother of Assistant Sub-Inspector Tukaram Omble who was killed while helping capture terrorist Ajmal Kasab, said Tahawwur Rana should be hanged publicly.“The terrorists should be hanged publicly. The punishment should be a message to all terrorists if they even think about attacking India,” Eknath said.Tukaram Omble was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India’s highest peacetime gallantry award, for his courage and sacrifice.Highlighting the delays in the justice process, Eknath criticized the time taken to punish Kasab and urged the government not to repeat that mistake. “It took years to bring Kasab to justice. This time, we must move faster. The country deserves closure, and the victims deserve justice,” he said.Retired Inspector Hemant Bavdhankar, who, along with his team, took on the 26/11 terror attack accused and caught Kasab, has welcomed the extradition of Tahawwur Rana from the US. “Every Indian will want that Rana be tried in the court here and given the strictest punishment. This will fulfill the wish of every Indian, and their wish is that he should be tried in an Indian court and get strict punishment,” Bavdhankar said.“For Rana’s extradition, we presented our case in the US Supreme Court, and the court accepted it. We made our case, after which the court handed Rana over to us,” he added.Devika Rotawan, who was one of those injured in the attacks, said, “Even though I have healed, my leg still swells up if I walk for too long. There’s still a big gash on my calf where the bullet hit me.” Devika had identified Kasab in the courtroom as the man who went on a shooting spree.
