Falaknuma ROB To Be Opened By June End

Hyderabad:Construction of the parallel road over bridge (ROB) at Falaknuma has gained momentum, with South Central Railway (SCR) expediting works over the railway tracks. The project, which began in 2021, aims to ease traffic congestion on one of the busiest routes in the Old City. The existing ROB connects several key localities and is used by thousands of commuters daily. However, the surge in vehicular movement has rendered the structure inadequate, leading to frequent traffic snarls. The new 360-metre-long flyover, being constructed jointly by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and SCR, has an administrative sanction of Rs 47.10 crore. It will link Chandrayangutta with Charminar, significantly improving connectivity in the area. The current flyover has become too narrow to accommodate the growing number of vehicles, exacerbating congestion. To facilitate the new construction, GHMC’s town planning wing issued development notices to 23 properties. Of these, 13 have been acquired, while the acquisition of the remaining 10 is under process.Originally slated for completion by the end of March, the project was delayed due to the complex girder fabrication work over the railway tracks. “The delay was caused by uninterrupted train movement and the time taken to fix the girders. The elevated slab will be handed over to GHMC by May,” said an SCR official.A GHMC official stated that once the railway portion is completed, both agencies will connect their respective sections of the bridge. “The final works will take around 45 days after SCR hands over the completed portion. We aim to open the ROB to the public by the end of June,” the official added.Commuters currently face severe inconvenience due to the narrow existing bridge. Once operational, the new ROB is expected to significantly decongest traffic for those travelling towards Falaknuma, Engine Bowli, Shamsheergunj, Aliabad, Chandrayangutta and surrounding areas.
