Fake Medicine Factory Busted in Telangana, Two Arrested

Hyderabad: In a joint operation, the Telangana Drugs Control Administration and Pet Basheerabad police conducted raided a manufacturing unit in Dhulapally, Medchal and seized fake medicines worth Rs 23 lakh and equipment valued at Rs 25 lakh on Thursday. Police arrestedGopal Girneni, 42, of Mulu district and Bokka Ramakrishna, 40, of East Godavari istrict while the main accused, Nihal of Delhi, suspected of selling fake medicines across the country, is at large.Medchel DCP N. Koti Reddy said Girneni was manufacturing plastic molding equipment for surgical use since 2001 but ran into financial difficulties during the Covid-19 pandemic. Nihal approached Gopal with the idea of producing fake medicines and promised to supply raw materials and packaging.Gopal set up the unit in Dhulapally, by partnering with Ramakrishna who had experience in pharmaceuticals. They had manufactured 13.68 lakh “Eptoin 100 mg” tablets and 14.28 lakh under the another brand in six months.
