VIJAYAWADA: In a ghastly accident, a speeding truck hit a school auto at Sangam-Sarat junction in the heart of Visakhapatnam city on Wednesday injuring eight school children. The condition of two of them is said to be serious.
The children were going to their school at Ramnagar when the mishap took place. The auto driver was also injured. The truck was going towards Siripuram junction from the railway station when it hit the auto. The auto was going towards the Ambedkar statue junction from Diamond Park Road.
Both the vehicles were at a high speed as there was not much traffic on the road. The CCTVs installed in a nearby commercial establishment captured the accident.
All the occupants were thrown out of the auto due to the impact of the accident. Local people rushed to the spot to rescue the children. They pulled out children who were trapped under the overturned auto and shifted to the nearby Railway Hospital.
The truck could stop after 100 meters after hitting the auto. The injured were shifted to hospital. While the truck helped escape the driver was caught by people. He was handed over to the police. A case has been registered and police are investigating further. Follow channel on WhatsApp
