Hyderabad: Dundigal Police on Thursday foiled an attempt by Lakshmi Srinivasa Constructions managing director P. Vijaya Lakshmi to escape to the US. She was arrested at the Shamshabad airport, here, after the police received a tip-off from immigration officials.Lakshmi faces several criminal cases for illegal construction of villas done by her company. HYDRAA has demolished seven of these villas, each being sold for anywhere between Rs.75 lakh to Rs.1.5 crore.Vijaya Lakshmi and her construction company have been in the crosshairs of authorities for the past four years. The villas, constructed by Lakshmi Srinivasa Constructions in Dundigal’s Mallampet, under Survey Nos 170/3 and 170/4 were seized by the municipal council authorities in 2021.Authorities in 2021 said that the structures were built on the buffer zone of Mallampet lake at Dundigal, and previously two of these structures were razed. However, Vijaya Lakshmi continued constructions, leading municipal authorities, with orders from Dundigal Municipal Commissioner and the district collector, to seize the structures under section 181 (1) of the Telangana Municipalities Act, 2019.On September 8, 2024, HYDRAA demolished several of Vijaya Lakshmi’s villas for being on the full tank level and buffer zones of Mallampet Lake. HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath said Vijaya Lakshmi was locally known as a ‘lady don’. She had numerous criminal cases booked against her. HYDRAA had earlier filed a criminal case against her.
