Hyderabad: A cab driver was found dead in a working boys’ hostel in Medipally on Saturday. The victim, P. Mahender Reddy, 36, was a native of Jangaon. His body was discovered by hostel residents, who alerted the authorities.Upon arriving at the scene, police found that the victim had suffered severe injuries and initial findings suggested that he was murdered. Police were working to identify the murder weapon, which has yet to be recovered.Police launched a probe into the case and were focusing on a motive related to a personal affair involving a hostel staffer.NDPL Bottles Worth Rs. 1.5L ImpoundedHyderabad: A state excise task force team seized 117 non duty paid liquor (NDPL) bottles worth Rs.1.5 lakh that were being smuggled into the city in a train on Saturday. The bottles were seized during an inspection at the Shamshabad station, and one Joseph who was found transporting the bottles, was arrested, said state excise enforcement director V.B. Nabi was a prime accused in the murder of his grandfather over family disputes, police said. Police said that his cousin Zakir was the prime suspect. Uppal inspector Election Reddy said that the police had formed a special team to investigate the murder.North Zone Police Detain 25 OutlawsHyderabad: The north zone police conducted a special drive to curb anti-social activities at Balamrai, Annanagar, Rasoolpura, Sreelanka Basti and Patigadda on Friday night. The police detained 25 individuals during the operation, including 20 who were found drinking in public places and five others were caught consuming ganja.They had been booked and would be produced before a local court, north zone DCP Sadhana Rashmi Perumal said. The teams consisting of four inspectors, eight sub-inspectors, and 80 police personnel were headed by the ACP and station house officer of Begumpet and the operation lasted from 8 pm till 11 pm.Two Nabbed for Trapping Victim on Dating AppHyderabad: Swift police action led to the arrest of Shoeb Khan and Mohd Sohail, who had trapped a 21-year-old victim through a dating app and extorted Rs.47,000 from him. The accused were picked up from their houses in Kishanbagh on Saturday, within 24 hours of receiving the complaint.The duo used to trap and blackmail victims through the dating app, Attapur station house officer G. Venkata Reddy said. “We received a complaint from the victim who stated that he was called by the duo to an isolated place in Arsh Mahal and attacked,” the officer said. The victim paid the duo online.Based on a complaint, police registered a case (3 of 2025) and BNS arrested the accused within 24 hours. Police recovered Rs.31,000 from the duo.Wife of Journalist Dies by SuicideHyderabad: A woman died by suicide in Madhapur on Friday. Her body was discovered in the Durgam Cheruvu waters on Saturday. The victim was identified as Durga Madhavi Adepu, 55, wife of a TV journalist, after the police retrieved the body and issued circulars to nearby police stations and media outlets to identify her.She was identified by her husband.Police said Madhavi had been suffering from seizures and chronic health issues. Madhapur police booked a case and said they were probing all reasons that could have contributed to her taking the extreme step.Photographer Succumbs to InjuriesHyderabad: A photographer succumbed on Saturday to injuries he had sustained in a hit-and-run incident at Meerpet on New Year’s Day. Police say they do not have sufficient CCTV evidence to catch the erring driver.According to Meerpet inspector K. Narasimha, the incident took place when the victim, 23-year-old Anil Kumar, was crossing the road in Jillelaguda. An unidentified two-wheeler struck Anil, who was rushed to a nearby hospital with severe injuries. Police examined CCTV footage which showed the accident but said there was not enough light to capture the vehicle’s details.Hydernagar, Kukatpally Traffic DivertedHyderabad: Cyberabad traffic police has imposed traffic diversions at Hydernagar, Kukatpally, till January 19 to facilitate the construction of a stormwater drain.According to the advisory, traffic from Hydernagar towards Nizampet will be diverted either at GPR Cinemas towards Konaseema tiffin centre and Kolan Raghava Reddy function hall or at Addagutta. Traffic coming from Nizampet to Nizampet crossroads will be diverted to Thulasinagar crossroads and HMT Ramalayam towards JNTU.
