Dozen leaders aspire to be BJP state chief

Nizamabad: The BJP in Telangana is buzzing with anticipation over who will become the party’s new state president. With nearly a dozen leaders in contention, party insiders say the high command is weighing both political reach and organisational experience, while tradition has favoured those with an RSS background.Nizamabad MP Arvind Dharmapuri, who secured consecutive Lok Sabha wins in 2019 and 2024, is a leading candidate. Despite his seniority, he has yet to assume a significant party post. Malkajgiri MP Etala Rajender is also a strong contender, backed by leaders across the state who highlight his broad social and economic credentials.Followers of BJP national vice-president and Mahbubnagar MP D.K. Aruna are also optimistic. Union minister Bandi Sanjay, however, has dismissed rumours of a campaign to see him serve a second term. Medak MP M. Raghunandan Rao is another name in the fray.Kamareddy MLA Katipally Venkataramana Reddy — known as the “giant killer” for defeating then Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and current Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in 2023 — has also emerged as a front-runner. From the organisational side, former MLC Ramchander Rao, G. Premender Reddy, and Kacham Venkateshwarlu are aspiring for the role. Youth leader T. Veerender Goud is being considered as a surprise pick if the party decides to prioritise a younger candidate.
