Digha Jagannath Temple Opening On April 30

Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday informed that the Jagannath Temple which has been built at Digha sea beach in line of the original one at Puri would be opened on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya in the afternoon of April 30. Supervising the preparations during a visit at the famous tourist spot, Ms Banerjee said, “A Yajna will be performed throughout Tuesday along with the work for installation of the idol. On Wednesday the doors will be opened between 2.30 pm and 3 pm, followed by an inaugural programme. This will add a new feather to cap of Digha.” Already, 57 sevaits of Lord Jagannath from the Puri temple and 15 monks from ISCON have reached the venue. Ms Banerjee asserted that the area would become an international tourist destination with the opening of the grand temple. The CM was accompanied by two of her cabinet ministers, Aroop Biswas and Chandrima Bhattacharya, and state DGP Rajeev Kumar. The temple is 213 ft in height and is built in the Kalingan architectural style using sandstone, dedicated to Lord Jagannath, Lord Balaram, Goddesses Mahalaxmi, and Subhadra.
