Chennai: After the US brought down the value threshold for tariff-free e-commerce exports, global logistics company DHL Group has suspended its B2C shipments valued over $800. This will affect courier-based exports from India as well.“As a result of recent US Customs regulatory updates, we are experiencing multi-day transit delays to the US from any origin for shipments with a declared customs value exceeding $800,” DHL said in a statement.From April 5, 2025, all shipments to the US with a declared customs value over $800 require formal entry processing – down from the previous $2,500 threshold due to new US Customs regulations.This change has caused a surge in formal customs clearances, which DHL is handling around the clock. Despite working diligently to scale up and manage the increase, shipments may experience multi-day delays.“Effective Monday, April 21st, 2025, and until further notice, we will temporarily suspend the collection and shipping of business-to-consumer (B2C) shipments to private individuals in the United States where the declared customs value exceeds $800,” it added.The suspension will not affect B2B and B2C shipments with a declarable customs value below $800 and B2B shipments with a declarable value above $800, though they may also face delays.India’s e-commerce exports are valued at only $4-5 billion. While higher-valued e-commerce shipments to the US may face slackness, those valued lesser than $800 are expected to grow with exporters tapping this tariff-free route.
