Hyderabad:Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Jitender, in a meeting held with station house officers (SHOs) from across the state on Saturday, urged them to focus on improving their performance and work with a clear objective of delivering justice to victims.
The DGP shared his journey, recalling his decision to join the IPS after consultations with several people, many of whom were against his choosing the IPS. Reflecting on his 33 years of service, he expressed pride in being part of a police department that has earned the number one ranking in the country.
Telangana’s achievement was credited to its performance across 32 key indicators such as training, infrastructure, and operational standards. Jitender acknowledged the collective efforts of police personnel statewide for this recognition.
Highlighting the importance of maintaining this honour, Dr Jitender emphasised that SHOs must work with heightened efficiency and discipline. He stressed the need for officers to handle complaints with sensitivity, conduct thorough investigations, and ensure justice for victims. “Any failure in delivering justice tarnishes the department’s reputation,” he warned.
To monitor performance, QR codes have been introduced at all police stations, and the department is actively assessing their effectiveness. He also urged officers to familiarise themselves with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS). Encouraging self-reflection, the DGP advised SHOs to seek honest feedback from their families and peers, urging them to align their work with public expectations and strive for excellence.
Additional DGP (law and order) Mahesh M. Bhagwat, addressing the officers, pointed out that errors by lower-level personnel often create difficulties for higher officers. He emphasised the importance of building a strong reputation within the department and the public. Mahesh also reminded the officers of their privileged pay scale and urged them to avoid corrupt practices that could tarnish the police force’s image.
