Demand For Borewells In Adilabad Up Due To Water Crisis In Summer

ADILABAD: Villagers across the erstwhile Adilabad district are demanding new borewells after soaring temperatures left existing wells and water bodies dry, triggering an acute drinking water crisis. Collectors are drafting an action plans under Mission Bhagiratha to restore supply to affected habitations. Officials have identified multiple dried up borewells and damaged pipeline sections that require urgent attention or drilling. On April 19, rural development minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka chaired a review meeting in Nirmal with Public Health Engineering and Mission Bhagiratha officers. She directed them to “streamline operations and ensure uninterrupted household supply,” and ordered flushing of dozens of dysfunctional wells on the verge of collapse. Former Asifabad MLA Atram Sakku protested that repeated pleas from Narnoor and Gadiguda mandals have gone unheeded. “Villagers still lack a single drop of drinking water despite urgent appeals,” he said. To ease the shortages, the government has begun sinking borewells in Pembi, Khanapur, Utnoor and Indravelli mandals, but local MLAs remain under pressure as many gram panchayats cite fund shortages. Additional villages in Sirpur (U), Jainoor, Kerameri, Lingapur and Tiryani mandals also report severe supply gaps. Meanwhile, allegations have surfaced that some contractors are drilling in groundwater poor locations, leading to repeated borewell failures and possible fund misuse. Villagers urged stricter supervision and swift action to secure safe drinking water before the summer peak.
