VIJAYAWADA: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Amaravati Parirakshana Samiti and the Rajadhani Rythu Sangham will go on a Delhi Yatra with 2,000 farmers seeking national-level support for their movement demanding Amaravati as the sole capital and scrapping of the state government’s proposal to have ‘3
Capitals’ (3Cs) for Andhra Pradesh.
The yatra will culminate with a three-day protest at Jantar Mantar on
December 17, the day on which the movement for Amaravati as one capital was
launched by farmers three years ago. Incidentally, it was on December 17,
2019, that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy announced in the State
Legislative Assembly during its winter session that Andhra Pradesh will have
3Cs as part of decentralising development in AP.
JAC leaders accused the state government of obstructing their yatra in AP
despite having permission from the Andhra Pradesh High Court for holding of
the yatra. They alleged that the YSRC is provoking people against Amaravati
farmers, who had been taking their yatra within the state. This is the
reason why they have decided to take the issue to the national level.
Amaravati Parirakshana Samiti president A. Siva Reddy said they have
requested South Central Railway to book for them a special train from
Vijayawada to New Delhi, which will start with 2,000 farmers on December 15
and reach Delhi on December 16.
Farmers will demonstrate at Jantar Mantar on December 17 and participate in
the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh rally on December 19 before returning to
Vijayawada. Siva Reddy said they have invited politicians from across the
nation, including members of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, for supporting their
dharna at Jantar Mantar.
