Hyderabad: A damaged stretch of road near the Indu Fortune traffic signal at KPHB Colony has become a daily nightmare for thousands of commuters. Despite the pipeline work by the HMWS&SB being completed nearly two and a half months ago, the road has not been restored, leading to heavy traffic jams and serious inconvenience. This particular junction is a major link road connecting areas like Miyapur, Madinaguda, Gokul Flats, Hafeezpet, and Kukatpally to the heart of Hyderabad. Commuters say the situation has worsened in recent weeks, with the damaged road affecting signal flow and causing delays. “The HMWS&SB team completed the pipeline work on one side but left the restoration half done. The patchwork on the other side and the central part of the road is still pending. We don’t know how many more months we’ll have to suffer before full restoration happens,” said Satya G., a daily commuter and social activist. “Even if the signal is green, traffic moves very slowly due to the uneven surface and deep potholes. Two-wheelers are at risk of skidding, and the heat makes it even worse for people stuck in traffic,” he added. Another commuter, Vinay Vangala, who works in the IT sector, said, “After completing the pipeline work, they were supposed to level and restore the road, but it has been left as it is for over two months. Every day, my commute is delayed by at least 20 to 25 minutes. Imagine the cumulative time lost for all the people travelling on this stretch.” The commuters also pointed out that even after raising complaints through the official grievance system, the HMWSSB closed the ticket after clearing only part of the patchwork. Many people have also taken to social media platforms like X, tagging officials and posting photos of the damaged road, demanding immediate action. The GHMC clarified that road restoration in this case was the responsibility of the HMWS&SB, since the road was dug up for their pipeline work. When contacted, Prabhakar Rao, general manager of HMWS&SB, said, “Some pipeline work is still ongoing. The patchwork is being done slowly along the line, simultaneously, as the pipeline work progresses. It will take at least two more months to fully restore the road.”
