Hyderabad: Cyber criminals are resorting to a new method to loot people. Moving away from OTP frauds, lottery, Bitcons and others, the cyber fraudsters have started targeting revenue officials, especially tahsildars working in districts.The miscreants pose as ACB officials and call tahsildars and accuse them of taking bribes and kickbacks for rendering official favours. They robbed the victim of lakhs of rupees.In a recent incident, some persons called a tahsildar working in Yadadri district and stated that they were calling from the ACB office. According to police, on being threatened that they would expose his bribe collection, the tahsildar deposited Rs 3.16 lakh into an account number that was given by the criminals. Upon inquiry, it turned out to be a false call and the tahsildar lodged a complaint with the cybercrime police. A senior police officer from Cybercrime wing said that they received a complaint from the victim who was duped by the cyber fraudsters.Officials explained that ACB officers never make calls to government officers in bribery cases.The Hyderabad police had registered cases after the Secretariat security staff caught pseudo-officers posing as revenue staff to enter the secretariat.
