Hyderabad: Union minister of state Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Saturday accused the Congress government of taking credit for the fine quality rice being distributed through fair price shops, which, he claimed, was entirely supplied by the NDA government at the Centre. Speaking to reporters, Sanjay said, “The Congress is enacting a drama by claiming it is providing fine quality rice. In reality, it is the Modi government that is supplying this rice under the food security scheme.”He stated that the Centre was spending approximately Rs.10,000 crore every crop season, totalling Rs.20,000 crore annually, on paddy procurement from farmers. “In the last Kharif season alone, the Centre spent Rs.12,000 crore. The Modi government is procuring paddy at Rs.2,203 per quintal, covering additional costs for transport, milling and distribution,” he explained.Criticising the Congress, he questioned, “Even though the Modi government is spending Rs.37 per kg, Congress workers are tearing down the Prime Minister’s photographs from ration shops. What is the rationale behind objecting to pictures of the leader, who is funding the entire initiative?” The minister asked the mandal-level BJP leaders to visit households and have lunch with beneficiaries to verify the quality of rice and understand people’s satisfaction.Commenting on the recent unrest at the University of Hyderabad (UoH), Sanjay accused the Congress government of handling the situation insensitively. “They resorted to lathi-charge on students and even cut down trees. Such actions have earned public anger. The government must unconditionally release all arrested students,” he demanded. He also alleged that Congress and BRS are competing to appease the AIMIM. “They stood together on the same platform in Chennai regarding the delimitation issue and the Wakf Board Amendment Act. These parties are acting in coordination to hand over Hyderabad to the Majlis,” he charged. In a separate development, Sanjay wrote to TTD chairman B.R. Naidu urging the immediate commencement of temple construction in Karimnagar, for which a ground-breaking ceremony was conducted two years ago on a 10-acre plot. “People of Karimnagar and nearby districts are waiting eagerly for the temple construction to begin,” he said.Earlier in the day, he paid floral tributes to Babu Jagjivan Ram on his birth anniversary at the BJP office. He alleged that the Congress party had betrayed both Dr B.R. Ambedkar and Jagjivan Ram. “After Indira Gandhi, Babu Jagjivan Ram deserved to be Prime Minister, but the Congress denied him the opportunity. They even insulted Ambedkar in Parliament,” he averred.
