Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy presented the Telangana’s comprehensive caste survey, conducted over 50 days and covering 66.39 lakh houses in villages and 45.15 lakh houses in towns.The decision to undertake the survey, initiated in February 2024, was informed by studies of similar surveys in Karnataka and Bihar, as well as consultations with intellectuals and caste associations.”The data collected will be instrumental in devising effective welfare schemes,” stated Chief Minister Reddy. The state government allocated Rs 160 crore for the survey, which involved enumerators gathering detailed information from each family using an eight-page form. Following the data collection, 76,000 data entry operators worked for 36 days to computerise the survey results.The survey revealed the following distribution of population across different caste categories: SCs: 61,84,319 (17.43%) OCs: 56,01,539 (15.79%) Muslims: 44,57,012 (12.56%) Muslim BCs: 35,76,588 (10.08%) BCs (except Muslims): 1,64,09,179 (46.25%) Muslim OCs: 8,80,424 (2.48%) STs: 37,05,929 (10.45%)
