Express News Service

CHANDIGARH:  Delhi CM and Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal has appealed to Punjab’s farmers and farm labourers to not take any wrong step like dying by suicide due to pink bollworm infestation, rain and hailstorm.

He assured that if AAP is voted to power in Punjab in the assembly elections, the party would pay the due compensation to farmers and farm labourers by April 30. The CM met the farmers in Mansa today during the program ‘Kisanan nal Kejriwal di gal-baat’. He was accompanied by AAP Punjab president and The event began by observing two-minute silence for the three women from Kheeva Dialuwala (Mansa) who were martyred in an accident at Tikri border.

Kejriwal then made promises based on the condition if AAP emerged victorious in the upcoming assembly elections. “After April 1  next year, farmers and labourers in Punjab will not be forced to commit suicide due to crop failure. By April 30, 2022, crop loss compensation will be credited to the account of each affected farmer and labourer.”

He said that when the AAP government was formed in Delhi, the crops of the farmers were also damaged, but AAP compensated them more than their cost of expense of Rs 18,000 to Rs 20,000 per acre. But in Punjab, he said, CM Charanjit Singh Channi had taken photographs with the farmers in the fields, which were also put on the buses but the farmers have not received any compensation for the crops damaged by the pink bollworm or rain. Kejriwal said that ‘copying is easy’ but very ‘difficult to implement’.  “Therefore, the people of Punjab will not come in misleading manoeuvres of imitators; because the ‘original’ Kejriwal is standing in front of them,” said the CM.
