CHENNAI: Ordinary welfare schemes would bring in necessary benefits if implemented in full within the stipulated time while ambitious welfare schemes would not benefit anyone if implemented in a shoddy manner, Chief Minister M K Stalin said on Monday.
Holding his second review of the government’s iconic projects at the Secretariat, he cited the example of Farmers’ Market as a classic example of a major welfare project that was not given shape properly in the past and allowed it to lose its significance.
Everything was in their hands, he told the officials at the meeting in which 68 ongoing schemes and 6 future projects relating to 14 departments were reviewed and expressed happiness over the assurance given for completing the projects on time.
Stressing the need for continuous inspections to prevent slackening in the administration, he said the welfare projects were described as officer’s babies because nurturing and taking care of them was with them.
The review for the iconic projects was done because they concerned the government priority schemes that would also enhance the image of the State, he said, adding that it was the reason why he was insisting on completing them on time through continuous monitoring of their progress.
Among the departments whose schemes were reviewed were: energy, highways, small ports, transport, special camps, public work, industry, investments, commerce, handloom, handicrafts, textile and khadi, Tamil development, information, cooperation, food, consumer protection, prohibition and excise, information technology, digital services and health and people’s welfare.
