The move limits the selection of academic experts as Vice-Chancellors.Expressing fears of non-native individuals making to the post of Vice-Chancellors of Universities, Chief Minister stated the new UGC regulations makes it mandatory to place national-level advertisements for V-C posts and invites applications from across the country and this could lead to a situation where positions in State universities traditionally held by scholars of the State, are filled by non-native individuals, thus endangering the cultural and linguistic identity of the State. He said the amendment to UGC recruitment rules made way for Governors to meddle in the appointment of Vice-Chancellors in State universities.
