THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko, who is facing allegations of sexual misconduct from a fellow actor, jumped out of a hotel room in Kochi during a raid conducted by the District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF) on Wednesday night.
The police carried out the raid based on a tip-off about a drug peddler staying in the hotel. Upon checking the registration at the reception, they discovered that the 41-year-old actor who has acted in 94 films, had also checked in. His presence at the hotel raised suspicions, especially since he had been involved in a narcotics case in 2015, from which he was recently acquitted.
A cop involved in the raid informed the media that despite repeated knocks, the room door was not opened. After some time, another individual inside the room opened the door, but Shine had already jumped out through the window. The entire room was searched, and the person inside was also frisked; however, nothing illegal or objectionable was found during the search.
The police described Shine’s escape as cinematic. He jumped from the third floor onto the sunshade of the second floor and then into the swimming pool. After that, he ran out of the hotel and escaped on a two-wheeler.
Authorities suspect that hotel staff may have informed Shine about the raid.
Meanwhile, the police have initiated a search operation in Kochi and Thrissur districts to locate him, and his flat in Kochi has also been searched.
