Hyderabad: A single drop of blood could link ex-armyman P. Gurumurthy to the murder of his wife, holding the key to investigations in the case that has drawn national attention for its brutality. The blood drop has been sent to Truth Labs in Delhi and DNA test reports are expected in the next couple of days. The DNA will be matched with that of the family members of the victim, Madhavi.Meanwhile, the police are readying to take a judicial confession from Gurumurthy. This would also be an important facet when the police set about to prove their case.Police, meanwhile, began piecing the gruesome events on the intervening night of January 15-16. Leaving their children behind at a relative’s house, Madhavi and Gurumurthy were seen in four CCTV cameras returning to their house in Meerpet.Only Gurumurthy was seen leaving the house at around 6.30 pm the next day.On not getting any response from Madhavi, her parents called Gurumurthy who gave evasive answers. They contacted his relative, who told them that Madhavi was not home. Her parents rushed to the house and confronted Gurumurthy. He claimed that following a fight in the night, she had left the house. Gurumurthy then filed a missing person’s report with the police.Police sources said that Gurumurthy was having an affair with his wife’s cousin, about which Madhavi had come to know. Police suspect that when she questioned him about it, he killed her, dismembered her body and boiled the parts. The skin was flushed down the toilet. The Clues team tried to recover samples.Although the water body, in which he reportedly dumped the body parts, is a three-minute walk from his house, it took him 12 minutes to return. In normal circumstances, the body of the deceased plays a crucial role in murder investigations. In this case, since the body has not been recovered, the investigating team can face challenges. The blood sample that has been sent for tests could provide important evidence. The court will send notices to Madhavi’s parents, requesting blood or other samples, which may be used to ascertain her DNA with the drop of blood that has been picked up from the place of offence.
