BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri from Kalkaji has drawn widespread criticism for his controversial remarks on Congress leader and MP Priyanka Gandhi and Delhi chief minister Atishi. During a campaign rally, Bidhuri said roads in his contituency will be like Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi’s cheeks. The statement has been condemned by the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), who accused the BJP of misogyny.In a viral video, Bidhuri said, “Just as we made the roads in Okhla and Sangam Vihar, we will make all the roads in Kalkaji like Priyanka Gandhi’s cheeks.” Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate called the remark “extremely shameful” and demanded an apology from the BJP leadership, terming it an insult to all women.The BJP leader also made controversial remakrks on Atishi’s surname and family. “Atishi, who was Marlena, is now Singh. She has even changed her father,” Bidhuri said. Reacting to Bidhur’s comments, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal said that the BJP leader is “crossing all limits of shamelessness” and vowed that Delhi’s women would take a stand against such comments. However, following the uproar, Bidhuri expressed regret, stating on X, “It was not my intention to insult anyone. Still, if any person has been hurt, I express regret.”Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva acknowledged the controversy, emphasizing the importance of respecting women and maintaining decorum in public discourse. BJP MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat also criticized the remarks, urging politicians to think before making such statements.Congress candidate from Kalkaji, Alka Lamba, accused Bidhuri of repeated indecent behavior, urging voters to reject him in the elections scheduled next month.Bidhuri’s history of controversial statements includes a previous outburst against BSP MP Danish Ali in the Lok Sabha, for which he later expressed regret. The Kalkaji incident has further fueled debate over the BJP’s attitude toward women and the tone of political discourse in the country.
