Hyderabad:A food safety task force conducted a surprise inspection of restaurants in Bahadurpura on Friday, uncovering several health and safety violations at three major restaurants: Sukha Sagar Udipi Veg, Hotel Fiza and Bakers and Shaheen Mandi – The Arabian Restaurant.All three did not produce medical fitness certificates of the staff and pest control records. Food handlers did not have hygiene gear such as aprons and hair caps.At Sukha Sagar, the FSSAI license expired on October 3. A damaged false ceiling was found in the dining area due to water seepage, improper insect-proofing in the kitchen and cockroach infestation in the storeroom. Food items were not properly labelled.At Hotel Fiza and Bakers, the condition of the refrigerator was unhygienic. Improper food storage, broken tiles shedding particles and cockroach infestations were reported. Leftover and improperly labelled food was discarded on-site.At Shaheen Mandi, food storage issues were rampant, with vegetarian and non-vegetarian items stored together and improper labelling and covering of food in the refrigerator. The use of synthetic food colours in non-vegetarian items was suspected, leading to their immediate disposal.
