Army set to get new deputy chief, 4 corps commanders-

NEW DELHI:  The Indian Army is slated to witness a change of command at senior levels in June, which includes four new officers assuming the charge of the Corps as the General Officers Commanding (GOCs).

The force will get a new Deputy Chief (Information System and Coordination), as Lieutenant General Rakesh Kapoor currently the Commander in Chief of the Jodhpur-based XII Corps, will assume charge next month. He will be replaced by Major General Mohit Malhotra, currently posted as the Additional DG of Public Information. The Army has three Deputy Chiefs. Major General Mohit Malhotra and three other officers have been confirmed to be promoted as the Lt Gens on Monday and they will be assuming the command of their respective corps on June 9.

The Srinagar-based XV Corps, looking after the Line of Control with Pakistan and anti-terrorism operations in the Valley will be taken over by Maj General Rajiv Ghai. Lt General Amardeep Singh Aujala is the new MGS (Master General Sustenance) in the Army Headquarters, New Delhi. Lt General Gajendra Joshi is commanding the Mathura-based 1 (Strike) Corps and is being shifted as the new Director General (DG) of the Territorial Army. Major General Sanjay Mitra will be taking over as the new 1 Corps Commander. It is one of the four strike Corps, which are mandated to pierce into the enemy area as the war begins. It was earlier under the South Western Command but after post eastern Ladakh standoff in 2020, it has been shifted under the Northern Command.

Maj General SP Singh is to assume the command of the Yol, Himachal Pradesh-based IX Corps as the present Lt General PP Singh, the present Corps Commander, will be taking over as the new DG Operations and Logistics.

The 1.2 million-strong Indian Army is organised into six operational and one training command. Below it, the fighting formations of the Indian Army are organized into 14 Corps which are commanded by a Lt General rank officer. A Command is headed by a General Officer Commanding in Chief, General Officer Commanding or the Corps Commander.
