Warangal: Farmers in Arepally village, Hanamkonda district, celebrated Sankranti in their fields on Monday as part of a unique protest, urging the government to reinstate the original master plan for the Inner Ring Road (IRR). The protest included cooking various festive dishes with their families in a bid to draw attention to their plight. The Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA) initially announced a master plan for the IRR, but it was altered during the previous BRS government’s tenure. Allegations suggest the change was influenced by former BRS MLA Challa Dharma Reddy, whose lands and ventures were affected by the original plan. The revised master plan has resulted in significant losses for farmers in Arepally village, whose agricultural lands are now at risk. Despite repeated appeals to the newly formed Congress government, the farmers’ concerns remain unaddressed. As part of the protest, farmers highlighted their dependence on these lands for livelihood. Experts have also warned that the hastily revised plan could increase the likelihood of accidents, yet officials appear intent on its implementation. The farmers urged the government to immediately scrap the revised plan and reinstate the original master plan to safeguard their lands and livelihoods.
