Alliance Rule ‘Neglecting’ Student Welfare: YSRC

Vijayawada: Affirming that the government led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy introduced major reforms in the education sector, the YSR Congress has demanded that the TD-led state government implement its Talliki Vandanam promise by depositing Rs 15,000 each of every school going student into their mother’s account. Speaking to media here on Sunday, former minister Merugu Nagarjuna said that Chandrababu Naidu has been trying to evade the Tallki Vandanam scheme citing empty coffers, “but the promise pertains to the future of the school children and we demand that the amount be credited into their mother’s account as promised by TD during the election campaign.” Nagarjuna recalled that Jagan Reddy has brought in reforms in the education system to better the lives of the poor as education is the only tool to drive away poverty and has transferred Rs 72,903 crore to education related schemes. Instead, “Chandrababu Naidu has been on the back-foot to implement the promise he made to give Rs 15,000 to each of the school-going students.” He said, “Naidu is now saying the amount would be given on installments, with a rider that the state coffers are empty. This shows his intent of evading his promise. The Talliki Vandanam amount should be deposited into the mothers’ accounts as promised.”
